George Hague murdered his girlfriend Amanda Sharp 20 by cutting her throat in the driveway to Langley Park Isolation Hospital, Langley Park, County Durham on 6 May 1935.

He was an unemployed bus conductor and she was a kitchen maid. They had been seeing each other but the day before the murder they quarrelled and seperated. He had previously given her a brilliantly colour hankerchief as a love token but after their row he had asked for it back and she had given it back to him. the next day he had asked her to go with him to the jubilee bonfire but she had refused and instead went with another friend who was also a maid at the hospital.

Amanda Sharp was returning from Jubilee celebrations at Ushaw Collage with the other maid in the evening when George Hague surprised them on the road back to the hospital and cut Amanda Sharp's throat from ear to ear with a razor.

His defence said that he was suffering from delusional insanity at the time.
